Coastal research & community engagement

The City in partnership with Griffith University and its Centre for Coastal Management has developed a Coastal Community Engagement Program to facilitate increased awareness and involvement of the wider Gold Coast community in coastal management issues. There are two key programs delivered under this Program:

  • CoastEd delivers coastal education and information sessions to a range of schools and community groups. It also uses media, social media and community networks to promote key coastal management issues and activities.
  • BeachCare provides opportunities for local people to help care for their local beaches through the establishment and ongoing care of dune rehabilitation areas.

Griffith Centre for Coastal Management also delivers a targeted coastal research program on behalf of the City with research topics including coastal process studies, beach health assessments, development of coastal management strategies and plans and the identification of priority coastal works.
